Lent 2014 – Day 28: Growing old

What I really like about this old recording of Odes 4,5, & 6 of the Akathist is the general atmosphere and the feeling of how it felt to be attending the service with 2 choirs. The traditional 2 choirs (left and right) and the beautiful voices of chanters Dimitri Kaplanis and Toufiq Haddad from 1979 in Damascus brings back memories of my childhood. There is something about the combination of older voices and byzantine chant that just hits the spot. I remember this ambiance being a kid surrounded by my grandfather and other old chanters at our church and when we joined our brothers at the Greek Orthodox Church in Ramallah during Akathist and other services. I wonder, will we sound like them when we grow older?
