Lent 2014 – Day 05: What name shall I call you by? At a loss and perplexed am I

Today’s album/chant is hand picked. Of so many versions of this lovely and sweet praise to the Holy Mother of God, I chose for you an old recording from 1942 by the late Bishop Samuel David who was featured more than once on this blog. I find his style both authentic byzantine with an Arabic flavor.

Enjoy your day!

At the beauty of your virginity – Tin Oreotita – إن جبرائيل

At the beauty of your virginity, and the resplendency of your chastity, Gabriel stood amazed and cried to you, 0 Theotokos: What are the appropriate words of praise to present to you? What name shall I call you by? At a loss and perplexed am I. And so as I was ordered I cry to you: rejoice, 0 you who are full of grace!
