Yesterday’s post of Protopsaltis Harraka reminded me of Fr. Amid Al Ma’az. My introduction to Fr. Amid’s voice was over 20 years ago from a cassette that was recorded of Fr. Amid playing his oud and chanting. On my visit to Lebanon a couple of years ago, I got to hear him in person chanting the Epistle at Melkite Greek Catholic basilica of St. Paul in Harrissa. Unfortunately he left immediately after mass and I didn’t get to meet him in person. Enjoy this beautiful voice:
Today He who hung the earth upon the waters is hung upon Cross (3x).
He who is King of the angels is arrayed in a crown of thorns.
He who wraps the heaven in clouds is wrapped in the purple of mockery
He who in Jordan set Adam free receives blows upon His face.
The Bridegroom of the Church is transfixed with nails.
The Son of the Virgin is pierced with a spear.
We venerate Thy Passion, O Christ (3x).”
Show us also Thy glorious Resurrection.
