Lent 2013 Day 2: From all dangers set me free

One of the most favorite chants for many, To thee the Champion Leader (Τη Υπερμάχω Στρατηγώ). This particular recording comes from Pascha Chants Across Generations – St George Jdaide – 2008 Concert by the Lebanese School of Ecclesiastic Music (SEM) Choir. I will be talking much more about SEM in future posts as I am a huge fan of them!

The uniqueness of this recording among thousands of this chant is the cute angelic voice of the little girl, I just love it!

The Chant is part of the Akathist service held on the first 5 Fridays of lent in the Eastern churches.

Translation of chant:

To thee the Champion Leader
I thy servant ascribe thank-offerings of victory
For thou hast delivered me from terrors, O Theotokos
But as hast that power which is invincible
From all dangers set me free
That I may cry out unto thee: Hail, O bride without bridegroom!

I’m still catching up because of my late start, but hopefully by the weekend I will be all caught up and post a daily entry for every day of the lent. Enjoy your day!
